Living room setting for the movie, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” Note the double, golden lucite grape swag lamp in the background…..Retro!
During the mid-century-retro years (60s-70s), grape swag lamps and home decor were the latest rage. Some were sold in kits by the Creative Decorative Inc (a Tandy Corporation Company).
The colourful bubble grape balls were made of a lucite acrylic resin and wired together to create pineapple TV lamp clusters, grape cluster centerpieces, and the infamous-grape cluster swag hanging lamps. The glow effect, coming through the translucent balls when the light was turned on, was stunning and fun. They came in different sizes and translucent ball colours.
Some of the more sought-after colours are purple and green.
Today, these decorative swag hanging lamps, TV pineapple lamps, and home decor pieces can sell for over $130- if found in good working condition.
