Literally, this means finding hidden treasure among junk or items sent to the local dump. Basically- castoffs.
I’m not talking about the kind of junk you find and turn into one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items to sell at the local flea market, such as found on the HGTV series Flea Market Flip.
No, I talking about UNKNOWN valuable, vintage collectibles just waiting to be found at estate, yard, garage, rummage sales; auctions, flea markets, and even online, then resold for huge profits.
These finds may need cleaning, mending or small repairs, but no creativity is needed. As a writer and author of the book “Stop Throwing Cash in the Trash: Your Guidebook to Finding Hidden Treasures and Transforming Them into Huge Profits.” I started this blog to educate my readers on what to look for and where to find these hidden treasures. Additionally, I love nostalgia anything, so this blog has lots of nostalgia-related articles inside. l enjoy reminiscing about my younger days growing up during the ’50s through the 80s.
Since I’ve been involved with online auction selling for over 14 years, and selling collectibles and antiques for over 20 years. I wanted to share my secrets with my readers.
I’m also the CEO of an estate sales company (Assisting Hands Estate Sales and Service Inc), located in Omaha, Ne, and I’m disappointed to see far to many treasures being sent off to the landfill.
Before we even are hired to sort items for an upcoming estate sale or conduct a home clean-out, owners place dumpsters on the property and start the process of liquidating a home beforehand. NOT A GOOD IDEA!
Clients call us and state they already tossed what they considered ‘junk’ into dumpsters, before we have even had a chance to sort the items for sale. Unfortunately, the items they consider valuable, are most of the time-NOT. I’m hoping to educate everyone on current collecting trends. This means more money in the pockets to our clients and customers!
Examples: A vintage Gillette “fatboy” safety razor can sell for over $500, a vintage cereal box can sell for over $500, an injected dot, bakelite plastic bracelet selling for over $500.
Finally, I decided 4 years ago to write a book (mentioned above), to educate people on this subject matter.
My book (available in print and eBook form). features over 450 photos and 350 pages of informative, fun, and nostalgia-related topics.
