In 1965, my father-who was in the Air Force-was stationed to Anchorage, Alaska.
Me and my siblings didn’t really think too much about the long trip ahead of us, until we were told we would be staying in motels with big swimming pools every night.
Wow, to go swimming in a huge swimming pool with diving boards and slides going into the water….We could not wait!
It turned out our favorite motel sign to watch for was none other than the famous Holiday Inn Neon “Great Sign” which stood 50′ tall.
This meant FUN in their fabulous swimming pools!
I miss those days.
We would do flips off those diving boards, and never once got hurt.
Oh, I can’t forget to mention those adorable mini-soap bars to wash with.
Another childhood favorite memory I have is going to a neighborhood lake in New Hampshire called “Bella Vista”.
This lake featured a large wavy slide installed in the shallow part of it, and a swim out, floating wood platform with a diving board attached.
Bella Vista had changing rooms, and a wonderful walk-up hot dog stand. After swimming, Dad and mom would treat us to a Coke Cola, hot dog and french fries.
We thought we had died and went to heaven.
In those days, a hot dog was a treat!
I sure miss those days!
